Solar Site Feasibility Study (Yona) for Pacific Energy Corp

Provide detailed topographic map for a Solar Site Feasibility Study

Client

Pacific Energy Corp

Project Type

Topographic Mapping

Location

Yona, Guam

Project Overview

Following the success of the previous feasibility study, Pacific Energy Corp. once again partnered with 2cofly to conduct a LiDAR-based topographic survey—this time at a new solar development site in Yona, Guam, which totaled over 300 acres!

Using drone-mounted LiDAR technology, we scanned and processed 300 acres of land in less than a week, delivering high-resolution elevation and terrain data that helped Pacific Energy Corp. evaluate site conditions, optimize panel placement, and assess development feasibility.

The Challenge

Just like the previous location, this solar development site required:

  • High-accuracy elevation mapping to determine land suitability

  • Fast and cost-effective data collection to accelerate planning

  • Detailed insights into terrain challenges and opportunities

Alternative methods, such as satellite imagery, lacked resolution and accuracy, while traditional land surveying would have been costly and time-consuming. By using drone-based LiDAR scanning, we provided Pacific Energy Corp. with a faster, more cost-effective solution for their site assessment.

Approach & Methodology

Drone-Based LiDAR & Photogrammetry Survey

LiDAR Scanning for Precise Elevation Data – Captured a high-density 3D point cloud to analyze terrain features.

Photogrammetry for Visual Site Context – Created a high-resolution orthomosaic map for planning and decision-making.

Cost-Effective Feasibility Study

No Need for Ground Control Points (GCPs) – Since this study did not require survey-grade accuracy, we eliminated unnecessary steps, saving time and costs.

Accelerated Data Collection & Processing – 300+ acres scanned and processed within a week, giving the developers near-instant access to critical data.

Deliverables Provided

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) – An accurate representation of terrain slopes and elevation changes.

3D LiDAR Point Cloud – A detailed spatial dataset for engineering assessments.

High-Resolution Orthomosaic Map – Aerial imagery for visual site analysis and planning.

Results & Project Impact

Faster & More Informed Decision-Making

With high-resolution topographic data delivered weeks faster than traditional methods, Pacific Energy Corp. could accelerate site assessments, optimize design, and move forward with confidence.

Significant Cost Savings

By eliminating unnecessary manual surveying, the developers saved thousands of dollars while still gaining the precise data needed for feasibility analysis.

Optimized Solar Development Planning

Detailed elevation insights allowed engineers to:

  • Evaluate terrain challenges before construction

  • Plan cost-effective grading and site preparation

  • Optimize solar panel placement for maximum efficiency

Conclusion

This solar site feasibility study in Yona, Guam, further reinforces how drone-based LiDAR technology revolutionizes site assessments for renewable energy projects. By providing high-resolution, real-time terrain data, 2cofly helped Pacific Energy Corp. make informed decisions faster, cheaper, and more efficiently than ever before.

For solar developers, energy companies, and land planners, 2cofly offers cutting-edge drone solutions to simplify site selection, optimize planning, and accelerate project timelines.
